It has been an old tradition mentioned in Indian mythology that every person participating in a war or battle used to have a Shankh with him, which he used for blowing. According to Indian mythology, during the time of Mahabharata, Lord Krishna used to commence and conclude the war between the Pandavas and Kauravas every day, by blowing the Shankh. In fact there have been many occasions mentioned in the Mahabharata that talks about blowing of Shankh by different great warriors for commencing the day of war. It is considered that by doing so, one declares his power and presence in the war over his rival.
Also, blowing a Shankh has been an enduring part of performing daily rituals and pooja ceremonies in temples and houses. It is said that daily blowing of a Shankh improves the respiratory functioning, and keeps a person away from heart related diseases. A person remains healthy if he daily practices blowing of a Shankh. Also blowing of a Shankh purifies the environment around itself. Apart from traditional beliefs, even scientists around the world have accepted the positive influence created by blowing of a Shankh. Now, it’s a proven fact that blowing a Shankh fills an environment and people in it with courage, hope, strength of mind, resolution, hopefulness, and other positive attitudes.
When one blows a Shankh, it gives out sound similar to the auspicious word ‘Om’. God chanted the word ‘Om’ before creating this world. This word depicts the actual world and the truth that lies behind it. When a person blows a Shankh, the sound generated out of it overcomes the negative sounds, energies, and noises in the surrounding environment and fills it with positivity. That is the reason why, every place, whether an office or a home is recommended to must have a Shankh in its premises.
